Welcome!

I’m Kaining Hu (胡恺宁). I obtained my PhD in Crop Genetics and Breeding from the Huazhong Agricultural University in 2019, under the guidance of Prof. Jinxing Tu. My doctoral dissertation investigated rolling-cycle DNA transposon (Helitron) in Brassicaceae species and the gene evolution of Brassica napus.

In March 2021, I joined the Xiaochang Zhang lab at the University of Chicago as a postdoc scholar in bioinformatics. My research focused on the evolution of cassette exons and nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) associated with alternative splicing in brain development.

Since April 2026, I have been an Associate Professor at the Zhe Ji lab, Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science, CAS. My research focuses on evolution and microprotein functions.
